Make Sure You Know About These Acid Reflux Causes
In most cases, acid reflux is easily preventable. The causes of acid reflux tend to environmental which makes them easier to control through lifestyle choices. Dealing with this issue is easier to do when you understand what is causing it. Getting a physical from your doctor is the best way to find out. Your doctor will ask about your lifestyle and combine that with your physical fitness to help identify the cause of your acid reflux. In most cases, the cause is one of the following.
Do you enjoy consuming food? Most people do! Almost everybody enjoys a good meal. If a meal is good enough you may eat too much of it. At some point we've all done this. After we have done this and enjoyed that meal so much we often feel as if our chest is going to explode. This is usually diagnosed as heartburn. These incidences occur because your stomach was not capable of digesting the amount of food you put into it in a short amount of time. If the stomach doesn't have adequate space for your dinner and this acid it must release it wherever it can which is usually the esophagus. Not eating so much all at once will help you avoid this.
Some medications can be acid reflux causes. It has become fairly well known that muscle relaxers can cause acid reflux and heartburn. Blood pressure drugs can also be a contributing factor to acid reflux. Some people even suffer from acid reflux symptoms after taking over the counter medications that thin the blood, such as Advil and ibuprofen. If these type of medications cause you problems, you should try to avoid them.
If, however, you need them for other conditions, ask your doctor what you can do to counteract the side effects they are causing with your digestive system.
Eating a heavy meal and then bending over can bring on an acid reflux attack. More acid gets produced when the stomach is full so it can break down the food for fuel. When your stomach is full, you are more likely to experience fluctuations in the “little flap” that keeps your food and stomach acid in your stomach. Bending over can cause that to fail which sends acid rushing into your esophagus and, potentially out of your mouth (yuck). Staying upright after you eat can help you avoid this situation.
The major causes of acid reflux can be easily avoided. Keep in mind, though, while most causes of acid reflux are influenced by lifestyle choices, there are some medical reasons, too. Figuring out what in your life may be causing your acid reflux attack and making changes is the best way to prevent them. Consult your doctor for help and tips. If you are concerned about future attacks, your doctor will have additional ways to help you avoid them.
Being prone to acid reflux should not keep you from living your life to the fullest.
